Entrance exams to secondary vocational and higher educational establishments are approaching. It is envisaged that the majority of prospective students will be studying on a fee paid basis.
There is no official information and even university applicants submitting documents to the admissions commission are unable to find out whether they will need to pay tuition fees or enroll in a free state-run program, correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report.
Annual tuition fees in these secondary vocational schools where young people will have to study for 2 years and 8 months are 3500 manats whereas universities charge average tuition fees of 700 manats per year.
However, a bribe also needs to be given to get admitted: 20,000 manats for secondary vocational schools and 200,000 for Ashgabat universities. The amount of bribe in regional universities, for example, Teacher Training University named after S. Seidi in Turkmenabat, is 160,000 manats.
